November 2017

LucidShape CAA V5 Based is an interactive tool that allows designers to perform optical simulations and analyses of automotive lighting products within the CATIA V5 environment.

After a successful commercial product introduction in March 2017, we are pleased to announce an updated version with more extensive analysis capabilities, tools for performing optical simulations with greater flexibility and efficiency, advancements for constructing and optimizing light guides, and changes in the user interface that enhance product usability.

In this issue:

Key Capabilities of LucidShape CAA V5 Based

Key Capabilities of LucidShape CAA V5 Based

With the LucidShape CAA V5 Based product, designers who are familiar with CATIA can perform optical analyses of automotive headlights, signal lights, tail lights and other lighting products with a minimal learning curve. Key features and benefits include:

  • Enables CATIA V5 users to leverage powerful LucidShape features to produce automotive lighting designs that meet performance, styling, visual branding and regulatory requirements

  • Allows users to develop designs with CATIA-generated geometry, geometry created in LucidShape software, or other imported geometry

  • Supports fast, accurate simulations of automotive lighting part-level models and product-level assemblies, providing the most comprehensive CATIA-based optical simulations available

  • Provides a hierarchical display of project components to facilitate efficient navigation in complex models

What’s New: LucidShape CAA Based Version 2017.09

LucidShape CAA V5 Based version 2017.09 offers the following updated solutions:

  • ·CATIA Version 5 R25 Support. In this release, LucidShape CAA Based version 2017.09 supports both CATIA V5 R24 and R25.

  • Simulation Configurations. You can now configure simulations so that they include only the objects that are relevant for the respective simulation and analysis. You create a simulation configuration by specifying the sources, actors and sensors that will participate in a simulation; objects that are not included in the configuration are ignored and do not affect the ray trace results. This new capability makes it easy to analyze different lighting functions, such as low beams, high beams, and signal lighting functions, without having to manually reconfigure the model between simulations.

  • Simulation in Batch Mode. This release includes the ability to run all active simulations that are defined in the active model document. This enables you to schedule multiple simulations to run one after the other, without the need for intermediate input.

  • Fixed Random Seed for Simulation. You now have the option to maintain a fixed random seed for simulations, which enables you to rerun simulations while maintaining the same results. This functionality also works after saving, closing, and restoring a model, in the same session or a new session of LucidShape CAA.

  • Ray History Sensor for Candela Sensor. Enhancements to the Ray History Sensor for the Candela Sensor include the ability to restore ray paths without having to rerun the simulation after save and restore operations, the display of Ray History Sensors results as a sub-node under the simulation results in the Specification Tree for improved model organization, and the ability to use multiple Ray History Sensors in the same model.

  • Ray History Sensor for Luminance Camera Sensor. Previously, the Ray History Sensor functionality in LucidShape CAA was limited to the Candela Sensor. In this release, we introduce Ray History Sensor functionality for the Luminance Camera Sensor. This functionality enables you to restore ray paths that correspond to a specific region on a luminance camera image.

  • Light Guide Design Module. In this release, the Light Guide Designer (previously released as a beta feature) has been renamed the Light Guide Design Module and requires a separate license. The Light Guide Design Module includes the following new capabilities:
    • New shape types that provide more versatile styling opportunities. New shapes include: circle with flat, partial ellipse, square, rectangle, keyhole, and user profile
    • Support for scaling and rotated profiles
    • Inward and outward oriented prism option
    • Enhanced exit surface construction
    • Dual optimization mode and optimization support for tapered light guides
    • Die pull direction support
