Introducing the LucidShape Onboarding Workbook

We’re pleased to introduce a new resource for new LucidShape users – The LucidShape Onboarding Workbook: Getting Started with LucidShape. Designed for engineers in the automotive industry who are new to LucidShape and new to optical and lighting engineering and design, this workbook features lessons that cover key features and functionality in LucidShape, as well rudimentary optical and lighting engineering basic concepts. Step-by-step instructions explain how to build some simple components, modify more complex models that are provided with the workbook, import and work with files from related CAD software, and run simulations accurately and efficiently – all with a focus on the automotive industry.

The LucidShape Onboarding Workbook and supporting files are available for download on the OSG Customer Support Portal. You must have an account with a password in order to access the Customer Support Portal. To obtain an account, click Sign Up for an Account on the login screen and fill out the form.

Online Tech Talks

In place of our annual U.S. User Group Meeting, this year we will offer a series of online tech talks. We have pulled together a great lineup featuring the latest enhancements to the LucidShape CAA V5 Based product, as well as a talk on designing pixel headlamps. The new Design Module in LucidShape CAA V5 Based v2020.06 introduces powerful and proven functional geometry tools for the creation of a multitude of automotive lighting functions. New freeform optic features offer MacroFocal, Procedural and Poly-Curve-Surface creation techniques to design reflectors and lenses for all types of headlights and signal functions.

We will present the latest features in LucidShape CAA V5 Based, including:

  • The ability to use CATIA Design Tables with LucidShape features to perform automatic parameter variations. This is useful for tolerance analysis.
  • The Interactive Raytrace feature to display ray paths inside your model. You can create randomly started rays from a light source or move a ray bundle over your setup.
  • Ray Deviation Correction in the LucidShape CAA Design Module. This feature helps you minimize distortions of cover lenses of a headlamp.
