New Features in the RSoft System Tools Version 2016.06

We are pleased to announce the availability of the RSoft™ System Tools version 2016.06.

This release contains a number of enhancements, new models, and new application notes for OptSim, OptSim Circuit, and ModeSYS.

OptSim

Updated n-PAM digital signal processing (DSP) library functions, including a more accurate analytical BER calculation, improved automatic threshold calculation, and support for nonlinear level spacing for systems using Mach-Zehnder modulators

OptSim

  • Blockmode circulator compound component
  • New application notes:
    • PAM4 transmission system using external Mach-Zehnder modulator and the n-PAM OptSim DSP Library functions at the transmitter and at the receiver
    • Estimating penalties from jitter at the transmitter and receiver in fiber-optic data-center links
    • Measurement of total jitter from the BER bathtub curves in high-speed serial I/O links
    • Analyzing intermodulation distortions in intensity modulation, direct detection (IM DD) analog radio-over-fiber links

OptSim Circuit

  • Interface with PhoeniX Software’s OptoDesigner using the PDAFlow API
PDAFlow API

  • New application notes:
    • Modeling coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW) devices
    • MATLAB cosimulation case study: modeling a notch filter photonic integrated circuit
    • Study of interplay between crosstalk and multipath interference (MPI) effects in multi-lane, bidirectional optical interconnects
    • Coherent transmitter PIC for binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) using a silicon photonic ring modulator

ModeSYS

  • New application notes:
    • Modeling optical and electrical crosstalk and ground pickup penalties in high-speed, fiber-optic serial communication systems
    • Large-Core Step-Index (LC-SI) fiber model user-specified launch
    • PAM4 transmission in multimode LC-SI fiber-based systems
