Release Highlights

On November 9, we released version 2021.09-1 of OptoCompiler, OptSim and Photonic Device Compiler. Updates include:

  • E/O co-simulation is now more integrated than ever
  • OptoDesigner script files can now be encrypted
  • Engineering notation support added to tcls helper function
  • A new thermal phase shifter model that allows analytic and data file-based modeling of thermal phase shift in PICs
  • New gain and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) data file-based behavioral model of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)
  • New behavioral model of lasers based on measured power vs. current (L-I) curve
  • Improved models for waveguides and phase shifters that account for parametric variations in effective index files as a function of device geometry
  • Improved photodetector model now has an additional frequency response option
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes

AIM Photonics Membership and IC Validator Certification

Synopsys renewed its membership with AIM Photonics, one of nine United States Department of Defense Manufacturing Innovation Institutes, which are industry-driven, public-private partnerships that focus the nation's premiere capabilities and expertise to capture critical global manufacturing leadership. Since 2015, Synopsys has partnered with AIM Photonics to provide software tools, training, education, and design expertise to help accelerate the transition of integrated photonics solutions from innovation to manufacturing.

AIM Photonics has certified the Synopsys IC Validator solution for physical verification sign-off of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Used in combination with Synopsys photonic integrated circuit design solutions, IC Validator enables design rule checking (DRC) for the AIM Photonics manufacturing process. Read the news release
