This course covers the basics of the RSoft System Tools and gradually moves to intermediate and advanced topics. The application areas cover use of the RSoft systems modeling tools for Fiber Optics, Data Center Links, Ethernet, Single- and Multimode fiber based systems, Passive Optical Networks, Coherent Transmission and Advanced Modulation Formats. 

 

The training also covers photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design flow in OptSim Circuit from PDK-driven schematic entry to simulation and creation of mask. The discussion covers creation of custom PDK using interface to RSoft device modeling tools.

  • Introduction to simulation engines and simulation parameters
  • Introduction to the GUI
    • Symbol Table, Parameter Scans, Component Libraries and Properties, Project Reports.
    • Advanced options including creating and using compound components.
  • Transmission impairments in single-mode fiber
  • Overview of optical and electrical amplifiers
  • Estimation of bit error rate (BER) and Monte Carlo Simulations
  • Hands-on practice and application examples
  • Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) simulation in OptSim Circuit
    • Design flow for PDK-driven PIC-design
    • Schematic entry and simulation
    • Support for foundry process design kits (PDK)
    • Generation of mask via interface to third-party layout-tool
    • Creating and using custom PDK via interface to RSoft device modeling tools
    • Design examples

Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Hands-on workshops are held throughout the day. Attendees are required to bring their own laptop.

Who Should Attend?
Any engineer or designer who wants to learn using fiber-optic systems modeling tool OptSim, and PIC modeling tool OptSim Circuit will benefit from this course. No prior knowledge of modeling is expected though familiarity with the concepts and terminology of fiber-optic communications and photonics can be helpful.

Registration and Fees
The fee for this short course is $600. This includes instruction, course notes, lunch on two days, and refreshments.

Attendance is limited. Pre-registration with payment must be made at least three weeks before the start of the courses. The fee is refundable up to that point. (A $200 fee is charged for later cancellations.) Please note that attendees are required to bring their own laptop.
