This course covers the basics of the RSoft Component Tools and gradually moves to intermediate and advanced topics. Topics include usage of the RSoft CAD Environment™, FullWAVE™, BeamPROP™, and DiffractMOD™, as well as application examples for each product. 

If interest and time allows, other applications and/or device tools and utilities can be covered as well.

Summary of Topics

  • Hands-on application examples illustrate the use of the RSoft software include Fiber Optics, Silicon Photonics, Surface Plasmons, Diffractive Optical Elements, and LED/OLED extraction analysis. If interest and time allows, other application areas can also be covered.
  • Introduction of simulation methodology used by the RSoft Component tools.
  • Introduction to the RSoft CAD where the geometry and optical properties of a design are defined. This includes topics such as Symbol Table, Component Properties, and Material Libraries, and advanced layout options.
  • Mode solving (including FemSIM)
  • Discussion of the FullWAVE, DiffractMOD, and BeamPROP simulation engines. For each simulation tool:
    • How to set simulation parameters including grid sizes, initial field,
    • Measurements and simulation output
    • Advanced simulation options
    • Interfaces with other simulation tools (RSoft, CODE V®, LightTools®, etc.)
    • Interactive Application examples
  • Data Analysis and post-processing, including parameter scanning and simulation scripting using MOST
  • If interest and time allows, other RSoft Component Tools and associated applications such as FemSIM™, GratingMOD™, BandSOLVE™, Solar Cell Utility™, Multi-Physics Utility™, and the LED Utility™ can be discussed.

Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Hands-on workshops are held throughout the day. Attendees are required to bring their own laptop.

Who Should Attend?
Any engineer or designer who wants to learn to use design software for photonics modeling and optical system analysis will benefit from this course. Though not required, some familiarity with photonics and CAD (concepts and terminology) is helpful.

Registration and Fees
The fee for this short course is $900. This includes instruction, course notes, lunch on three days, and refreshments.

Attendance is limited. Pre-registration with payment must be made at least three weeks before the start of the courses. The fee is refundable up to that point. (A $200 fee is charged for later cancellations.) Please note that attendees are required to bring their own laptop.
