Medical devices have come a long way from being standalone technologies, and they continue to advance rapidly to deliver better quality care to patients. A significant number of medical devices and systems have software components and interconnectivity capabilities, and their adoption in clinical practice is high. On average, U.S. hospitals have between 10 and 15 connected devices per hospital bed. 

While medical devices have improved patient care, workflow management, and overall clinical outcomes, they have also inadvertently become more vulnerable to malicious attacks and privacy violations.
