The semiconductor industry has used its ability to push the limits of Moore’s Law scaling to provide technology that now reaches into every walk of life. High-end device manufacturers are looking to move below 10nm to deliver system-on-chip (SoC) products that contain billions of transistors. Others are pushing into the IoT space using ultra-low power designs. To make these products possible, designers need to take account of an increasing number of factors. If they do not, they risk incurring the costs of low yield, with devices that do not perform as well as their competitors and which are less reliable in the field.
