Training on integrated MicroWave Photonics (iMWP) chip design

Osaka University, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Synopsys present a five-day training on photonic design for photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The training is aimed at application and R&D engineers as well as managers interested in understanding the development of PICs and the role of software automation in their design, simulation, and fabrication procedures.

Summary of Topics

  • Hands-on demonstration of the Synopsys PIC Design Tools for PDK-driven PIC design.
  • Overview of the latest status of the integrated photonics eco-system.
  • Overview of Synopsys PIC Design Tools and their role in integrated photonics design and manufacturing.
  • Schematic-driven PIC Design and custom generation of Process Design Kit (PDK).
  • PIC Design contest, attendees will be presented with a design challenge, proposed by Osaka University and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. The winning designs will be included on a design for fabrication.

Requirements

We ask for all participants to bring their own laptop with full administrative rights, as well as to make sure their laptos fulfill the following system requirements:

  • Windows 7 or newer (64 bits)
  • WiFi card
  • 3 GB free hard disk space
  • 2 GB RAM memory
  • 1 USB port

During the training sessions, the participants will be required to install a third party software that will allow them to access a cloud-base service, where the PIC Design Tools are pre-installed for their convenience.
