Meet Our Summer Interns

What did we do on our summer vacation? This summer, we were joined by four students who worked with our teams as interns in the Pasadena, California office. These interns used their diverse set of skills to contribute in the development and technical support teams. Let us introduce them to you!

Jocelyn Smith is a student at the University of Rochester pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science. She was an intern with the CODE V Development team and developed CODE V macros.

Khalid Omer is a student at the University of Arizona pursuing his Master’s degree in Optical Sciences. Previously, Khalid received his B.S. in Optical Sciences and Engineering from the University of Arizona. Khalid was an intern with the CODE V Technical Support team and worked on CODE V macro development as well as user education materials for the Customer Support Portal.

Jack (Yunyang) Sun is a student at the University of California, Irvine pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Computer Science. He was an intern with the LightTools Development team and worked on enhancements to LightTools modeling capabilities for an upcoming release.

Alexander (Alex) Lin is a student at the University of Arizona pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Optical Sciences. Previously, Alex received his B.S. in Physics from UCLA in 2013 and M.S. degree from U of Arizona in 2016. He was an intern with the LightTools Development team and worked on enhancements to LightTools modeling capabilities for an upcoming release.

We enjoyed working with all of our summer interns and wish them well in their continued studies!

Accessing Our Software

Do you need access to Synopsys Optical or Photonic Solutions for your studies? Are you designing freeform surfaces for cameras or lighting, LiDAR optics for remote sensing and autonomous vehicles, automatic lighting and control systems, biomedical imaging systems, photonics integrated circuits, or ring resonators and metamaterials? We offer a complete set of tools for designing these and many other types of systems!

For students in North America, we have two ways for you to gain access to the software for free:

  • The University Donation Program - For qualifying universities, CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape and the Photonic Solutions are available for educational use through the University Donation Program. This program is a great way for all students to access the software from their university’s network. For more information, ask your professor to email osg_educ@synopsys.com
  • Student Licenses - CODE V, LightTools, and Photonic Solutions are available as student licenses for educational use on your personal machine. And student licenses are good for one year! For complete information, refer to https://www.synopsys.com/optical-solutions/learn/student-license.html
