RSoft Photonic Component Design Suite Version 2018.03 Now Available

We are pleased to announce the availability of the RSoft™ Photonic Component Design Suite version 2018.03, which includes the following updates.

  • Major enhancements to the S-Matrix/PDK Generation Utility, which automates the creation of custom process design kit (PDK) models to create a new PDK, augment an existing PDK, or generate IP. The PDK models can also be simulated in Synopsys' OptSim™ Circuit and exported to a circuit layout tool such as PhoeniX OptoDesigner. The release adds support for:

• Parametrization of S-matrices, allowing multiple variants of a component to be studied within a circuit or foundry-independent layout in PhoeniX Software tools

• Automatic icons and improved port placement for custom PDK models

  • Enhanced support for all silicon photonics applications, including:

• Improved incomplete ionization and free-carrier dependent index/absorption of silicon in LaserMOD™

• Inclusion of doping in the silicon material model in all passive tools including FullWAVE™, BeamPROP™, ModePROP™, and FemSIM™

• Direct calculation of carrier dependent index from carrier densities in the Synopsys Sentaurus™ TCAD interface for consistent material modeling in all contexts

  • New 3D wide-angle BPM algorithms, further extending BeamPROP's capabilities to simulate structures in silicon or other high-index contrast materials
  • Improvements to FullWAVE modeling of dispersive materials, including automatic optimized fitting of materials and an approximately 30% speed improvement in the FDTD algorithm.

RSoft Photonic System Design Suite Version 2018.03 Now Available

We are pleased to announce the availability of the RSoft Photonic System Design Suite (System Tools) version 2018.03, which includes the following updates.

 

In OptSim:

  • Support for m-QAM and arbitrary constellation shaping in OptSim DSP Library for MATLAB

 

In OptSim Circuit:

  • American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics (AIM Photonics) APSUNY PDK v2.0b
  • Support for parametric custom PDK components created with the RSoft component tools S-Matrix/PDK Generation Utility
  • Support for hierarchical components in the interface between RSoft OptSim Circuit and PhoeniX OptoDesigner tools
  • Bidirectional NxM Electrical S-matrix block supporting Touchstone file format

5th Workshop on Photonic Integrated Circuits at OFC

After four successful workshops in 2014 through 2017, with a record 378 registrations in 2017, a fifth workshop on Photonic Integration is now organized at OFC. The workshop will provide you with one of the best overview of the full ecosystem of PIC service providers, covering all material platforms (Si, InP, & Dielectrics), Design Software, Packaging, Test & Measurement, Turn-key Design Houses, as well as end-users sharing their experiences. There are around 20 companies/organizations present at the event, with particular focus on MPW services & PDKs, and offers a great opportunity for networking. A buffet will be served throughout the event so you can quickly grab something to eat on the spot. There is no charge for this workshop, but does require advance registration.

The PIC International Conference team is pleased to announce the launch of PIC International Training. The training event will be organized in partnership with PhoeniX Software and Synopsys.

Synopsys and PhoeniX Software will present a two-day workshop on electro-photonic design automation (EPDA) for photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The workshop is aimed at application and R&D engineers as well as managers interested in understanding the development of PICs and the role of software automation in their design, simulation, and fabrication.

During the first half of the workshop, Synopsys and PhoeniX Software will provide an overview of their software tools and their role in integrated photonics design and manufacturing. Synopsys will describe its photonic tool chain, which features OptSim Circuit for schematic-driven PIC design, as well as the RSoft Photonic Component Design Suite for device design and custom generation of PDK components that can be used in OptSim Circuit and PhoeniX Software OptoDesigner. PhoeniX Software will describe OptoDesigner, a comprehensive tool for PIC design and mask generation that naturally interfaces with OptSim Circuit for full PDK-driven and custom PIC design.

The second half of the workshop will feature live training and hands-on demonstration of the Synopsys and PhoeniX Software tools for PDK-driven PIC design. The top-down training will demonstrate OptSim Circuit for PIC schematic entry and simulation, PhoeniX Software OptoDesigner for PIC layout and mask generation (including its interface with OptSim Circuit), and the RSoft Photonic Component Design Suite for custom PDK development and device design. During the hands-on session, attendees will have the opportunity to work directly with the software under the guidance of technical staff from both companies.
