Using Symbols in the RSoft Component Tools and Viewing the Current Value of an Option or Expression

The Symbol Table is a powerful aspect of the RSoft CAD and is easily the most-used feature. Users can define both built-in and custom symbols that can then be used to set almost any design or simulation parameter. Symbols are key to three main strengths of the RSoft tools:

  • Symbols enable parametric design: one symbol can be defined as a function of any other symbol, and then used to define almost any design or simulation parameter
  • Symbols can be scanned or optimized using MOST, RSoft’s automatic optimization and scanning tool
  • Symbols enable enhanced scripting, where virtually any option can be set via a symbol at the command line

Symbols are important to the RSoft design process and we encourage users to use them whenever possible.

A useful tip for finding the current value of any option or expression in the RSoft interface is to press and hold the CTRL key and double-click the option or expression. The current value will be displayed in a pop-up window. Two examples are shown below (one in the Properties for Segment dialog box and one in the Material Editor), but this works in any RSoft dialog box.
