RSoft Products 2013.12 Available Now

We are pleased to announce the availability of version 2013.12 of the RSoft products, which includes the RSoft Component Design Suite, the RSoft System Tools, and RSoft MetroWAND.

Software and License File Download Instructions

Beginning with version 2013.12, the license scheme for all RSoft products has migrated to the Synopsys Common Licensing (SCL) system. The adoption of the new licensing scheme may change how you obtain RSoft product license key files. Please review the following sections for more details.

Customers in the U.S., Canada, and Other Direct-Sales Locations

Software and license key files for RSoft product customers in the U.S., Canada and other direct-sales locations are available on the Synopsys SolvNet website. You will need the following to install RSoft products version 2013.12:

  • RSoft product software: You can download the RSoft products at: http://solvnet.synopsys.com/DownloadCenter
If you do not already have a SolvNet account, information on how to sign up for one can be found on our website.
  • License key file: You will need version 2013.12 license key files for this RSoft products release. This will replace your existing RSoft license files. You can download license key files from the SmartKeys page on SolvNet at https://solvnet.synopsys.com/SmartKeys
  • SCL installer: You will need the latest version (for example, 11.7) of Synopsys Common Licensing from the Electronic Software Transfer (EST) System on SolvNet. You can download this from https://solvnet.synopsys.com/DownloadCenter/dc/product.jsp.

Complete instructions about obtaining your RSoft products software, license key files and the SCL installer are available in the RSoft Installation Guide at https://synopsys.com/optical/e-newsletter-pdfs/RSoftProductIG.pdf

International Customers

For international customers working with distributors, you will continue to obtain your software and license key files from your local RSoft software distributor. Your distributor will provide the SCL installer that enables the licensing functionality. See the Synopsys Optical Solutions Group Global Contacts page for contact information. If your country is not listed on the Distributors page referenced above, please contact us at rsoft_support@synopsys.com for instructions.

Key New Features in the RSoft Component Design Suite 2013.12

Component Design Suite

The RSoft Component Design Suite includes the following new features:

  • New field-scattering capabilities that allow either DiffractMOD or FullWAVE to generate an RSoft Bidirectional Scattering Distribution Function (BSDF) file that contains the scattering information of a periodic structure. The BSDF can be applied to a finite optical beam that can cover more than one period to determine the reflected and transmitted fields. This capability can be used with appropriate field files from any RSoft tool and allows DiffractMOD to use a non-planewave launch field.
  • Several new interfaces between RSoft software and CODE V and LightTools:
    • Updated Ray-Tracing Converter to include complex and vector data transfer between CODE V and the RSoft products.
    • RSoft far-field files can be converted to LightTools ray data files. The far-field computed by the LED Utility can now, for example, be used as a source in LightTools.
    • The RSoft BSDF file described above can be converted into a LightTools BSDF to define surface properties in LightTools.
    • The RSoft BSDF functionality described above can be used with the updated Ray-Tracing interface to interface between CODE V’s Beam Synthesis Propagation (BSP) simulation and surface scattering simulated by either DiffractMOD or FullWAVE.

  • For BeamPROP, we have improved the multi-threading simulation speed and added new PML boundary conditions.
  • For FullWAVE, we have added several speed improvements, added new PML settings for optimal performance, and now include a dispersion fitting utility to convert refractive index data files into a Lorentzian dispersion model.
  • The Carrier Effects functionality of the Multi-Physics Utility has been expanded. Improvements include the ability to use complex index perturbations, generation of the frequency response of the device, the ability to import custom user-defined doping profiles, and many new outputs including Carrier Density, I-V, R-V, and C-V plots.

Key New Feature in the RSoft System Tools 2013.12

Since RSoft products have migrated to the SCL system, OptSim and ModeSYS users will require new license files to run the RSoft System Tools 2013.12.

Key New Features in MetroWAND 2013.12

New Features in MetroWAND

MetroWAND 2013.12 includes the following new features:

  • A new design engine for modeling and simulation of Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop (ROADM) networks
    • Design and optimization of capacity allocation, end-to-end fiber layer performance validation, and automatic selection and placement of ROADM network elements from the equipment library of choice
    • End-to-end grooming of traffic demands into wavelengths
    • Automatic setting of optical attenuators to equalize power of all optical channels
    • Placement of optimal dispersion compensation modules in ROADM nodes
    • Addition of Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) models to the equipment library
    • Ability to display the internal architecture of a ROADM node
    • Support for automatic- or manual-selection nodes to build ROADM modules

  • Compliance with the latest ITU-T Optical Transport Network (OTN) design standards
    • Rate Definition Model to support ITU-T G.709 Optical Transport Units (OTU) and Optical Data Units (ODU)
    • Flexibility to add custom client signals and mappings
    • Vendor equipment library samples to support OTN signal rates

Important Changes to RSoft Products Platform Support in 2014

In April 2014, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP. In addition, usage of several other platforms currently supported by the RSoft products, such as Windows Vista, has drastically decreased. Therefore, RSoft products versioned 2013.12 will be the last versions to officially support the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4
  • All 32-bit Windows and Linux versions

Please note that service releases for RSoft products versioned 2013.12 will also support Windows XP, Windows Vista, RHEL 4, and 32-bit versions of Windows and Linux.

Beginning in mid-2014, RSoft products beyond version 2013.12 will only officially support the following platforms:

  • 64-bit Windows 7
  • 64-bit Linux

We encourage you to migrate to 64-bit Windows or Linux computers, since official support for 32-bit versions of these operating systems will end in mid-2014. If you have any questions, please contact rsoft_support@synopsys.com.
