Join Synopsys Optical Solutions in October for our annual LucidShape User Group Meeting. Attend to learn new design tips and techniques that will help you with your projects. During our virtual user group meeting, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with the Synopsys Optical Solutions staff and our user community. The two days of the meeting each offer a unique set of presentations; we encourage you to attend both days.

A new LucidShape CAA application example, the Virtual Goniometer, is now available. This application example demonstrates how to use a virtual optical measurement bench (goniophotometer) to measure the optical response of a surface. The data can then be converted into a BSDF file which you can use in LucidShape CAA. You can use this virtual goniometer to take the measurements of:

On November 1, 2021, we will be removing the LucidShape Measured BSDF Library from the Customer Support Portal. This library has been replaced by the SmartStart Library and has not been maintained for over one year. All the measurements are now in the SmartStart Library, as well as many newer measurements.
The current library will be available to download at the link below until November 1, 2021. After this date, customers with perpetual licenses will be able to request copies of the library for three years, until November 1, 2024. To request copies of the archived files, you can contact support at lucidshape_support@synopsys.com.
The LucidShape Measured BSDF Library has been replaced by the SmartStart Library. The SmartStart Library is a licensed module available for LucidShape and LucidShape CAA. It is a curated database of optical data for plastics and glasses, as well as BSDF data for diffusers, reflectors, and mold textures. It includes the datasets previously in the LucidShape Measured BSDF Library as well as hundreds of plastics and glasses. Many of the refractive mold texture datasets in the previous library have been updated in the SmartStart library to provide better correlation between simulation and measurement for a wider range of designs, including light pipes with total internal reflection (TIR) at the textured surface.
In addition to the current datasets, SmartStart Library licensees also receive access to a no-additional-cost measurement queue. If your design requires data for a commercially available plastic, glass, diffuser, etc. that is not currently in the library, licensees may request that it be added. Synopsys will procure samples, measure the optical properties, and add the dataset to the library at no cost to the licensee. Library requests can be made by sending an email to osg-libraries@synopsys.com.
Students from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, Columbia University, the University of Arizona, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and the University of Rochester received awards for their entries in the 2021 Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Optical Design Competition.
