Coverity's Line Count Guidelines

Version 2010.1

View Previous Versions

This page describes Coverity’s guidelines for counting lines of code for the purposes of determining compliance with an LOC License. Coverity may update these Guidelines from time to time. The LOC License is further described in your license agreement with Coverity and terms in your license agreement that conflict or amend these guidelines shall control and supersede these guidelines.

A customer who has purchased an LOC License to Coverity Software may use the Software up to a maximum number of lines of code identified in the license transaction. In counting the maximum number of lines of code, Coverity does not count:

  • unmodified open source code in the customer’s code base, or modifications to open source code that are only bug fixes for defects discovered using Coverity’s products,
  • lines that are whitespaces, or
  • lines that are comments.
