Synopsys consultant wins a leadership award from SC Media

We’re excited to announce that Andrew van der Stock, senior principal consultant at Synopsys, has been named a winner in the third-annual SC Media Reboot Leadership Awards, earning the distinction in the Outstanding Educators category.
A total of 50 honorees were revealed as part of a special editorial section published on www.scmagazine.com on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.
About the Reboot Leadership Awards
The Reboot Leadership Awards are an adjunct to SC Media’s annual Reboot coverage, which takes place each December when SC Media recognizes the best and brightest cybersecurity luminaries and organizations. The Reboot Leadership Awards are offered similar accolades. The winners are honored with a special section on SC Media’s website and in their December Reboot edition.

I love learning new stuff about development trends from my students, and I’ve never met a developer who didn’t want to learn about how to hone their security skills and apply it to their craft. I’ve just released a three-day training course for anyone to pick up from GitHub, make it their own, and deliver it locally, allowing anyone, anywhere, of any means to get the latest information. I thank Synopsys for giving me this opportunity, and my family for putting up with me toiling away on weekends to get it done.”
The nominees faced a thorough judging process conducted by SC Media’s editorial team. This included a review of their professional backgrounds, references, and work undertaken to benefit the wider industry, as well as any other research deemed necessary. Winners were chosen based on their outstanding service, qualifications, and advancements in the cybersecurity industry.

About Andrew van der Stock
As a senior principal consultant at Synopsys, Andrew provides technical leadership in security architecture, threat modeling, secure coding guidelines and reviews, assurance and penetration tests, risk assessments, and developer training. He’s worked in the IT industry for more than 20 years and has researched and developed web application security and architecture fields since 1998 for Fortune 50 clients in Australia, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and in the USA.
Andrew leads the OWASP Top 10 and Application Security Verification Standard projects, having previously led the OWASP Developer Guide, OWASP Top 10 2007, and ESAPI for PHP projects. He’s a lifetime member of OWASP and has served as a director and treasurer of the global OWASP Foundation Board. He’s also held executive director and global chapters committee positions within OWASP.
Andrew has presented at many conferences, including OSCON, Black Hat USA, Ruxcon, linux.conf.au, and AusCERT. For over 15 years, he’s trained developers and InfoSec professionals in leading-edge technologies and techniques, such as DevSecOps, that move security testing from secure code reviews and penetration testing to repeatable unit and integration testing by developers.
