VPOM-2420 Virtual Platform

The VPOM-2420 Virtual Platform is a high performance software simulator of the TI OMAP2420 Software Development Platform (SDP) for the hardware-dependent software developer. VPOM-2420 powers dramatic gains in developer productivity by integrating with the software developer's preferred development environment, delivering a complete desktop development environment for application, middleware, operating system and driver development. The VPOM-2420 integrates with software developer's development tools of choice including Microsoft's Platform Builder and eMbedded Visual Tools, TI Code Composer Studio™, ARM® RealView™ and more.

VPOM-2420

With this fast full-function software emulation, software developers can start developing and integrating their software today with the following capabilities:

  • Runs actual TI OMAP2420 SDP targeted binaries
  • Includes real-world connections such as serial, network, virtual MMC and video streaming
  • Allows camera application development and test through a USB camera connected to the host computer and from a video file
  • Interfaces to RDI compatible debuggers (including Freescale CodeWarrior for ARM, Lauterbach TRACE32®, and ARM ADS and RealView)
  • Allows control of the power management hardware (TWL92230) and provides insights into the interaction of the hardware with the independent power management services of the operating system
  • Provides high level of system visibility and control, though breakpointing and single-stepping inside peripheral hardware models
  • Provides high level of system visibility by viewing of system registers and variables inside peripheral hardware models
  • Provides low-level execution control and visibility into the CPU and the peripheral components
  • Allows superior multi-core debugging better than JTAG
  • Features photo realistic device skin with emulated touch screen

Synopsys offers two product packages for VPOM-2420: a standard Virtual Platform (VP) and a Platform Development Kit (PDK). With the VP a developer can preset configurations like hardware switch settings and COM port settings and OS images to develop and test new software configurations to boot operating systems, run applications or develop low-level drivers. The PDK offers the same functionality as the VP, with the added ability to customize platform hardware; add and change components from the library of components provided or easily create new functions by using the authoring tools included with the PDK license.

VPOM-2420 has advantages over the hardware development board in installation, configuration and use, unsurpassed observability and controllability and easy electronic distribution. This fast software model combined with the developer's preferred development environment delivers a complete solution for software developers to maximize productivity. This gives each developer an environment to concurrently develop and integrate their software with the target hardware, testing the actual binaries that will be used on the real hardware when it becomes available.

DSP Support
For DSP support the VPOM-2420 models the TI OMAP2420 DSP (C55XX) including the DSP ISS. VPOM-2420 is fully integrated with the Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio™. For pricing and availability of the VPOM-2420 please contact SLSinfo@synopsys.com
