Overview
The Synopsys DesignWare® USB Host Controller (UHOST2) is a set of synthesizable building blocks that ASIC/FPGA designers can use to implement a complete USB 2.0 host for 480-Mbps speeds.
The UHOST2 is fully compliant with the specifications for the USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) and the USB 1.1 Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) 1.0.
The UHOST2 can be customized and optimized as a stand-alone host chip or as an integrated ASIC for applications such as game consoles, set-top boxes, PCs, PDAs, and telecommunications equipment.
In addition, the design can be easily processed in most technologies.
Synopsys' UHOST2 can be easily bridged to any industry-standard bus and includes both the PCI and AMBA AHB interfaces.
The application interface screens USB host controller design complexities, making it easy to integrate the UHOST2 device to customer target applications.
The UHOST2 is based on Synopsys' OHCI device, which has been proven in production and has shipped over 7 million units in silicon.
These device designs significantly reduce development time and engineering risk, bringing USB-based designs to market faster.
There are four major blocks in the UHOST2: the EHCI Controller, OHCI Controller (optional; zero or more can be implemented), Port Router, and Bus Interface Unit (BIU).
