This article is a quick guide to downloading and installing the DesignWare Memory Model software. There are two different packages that are required:
- Technology Software Package (TSP)
- Individual Mempro Model Packages
Technology Software Package
You need to download and install the Technology Software Package (TSP) before you can use the models.
The TSP contains the run-time memory model software and product documentation.
The TSP package will not change often, but when it does,
you will want to download and install the latest version to take advantage of enhancements to the underlying model technology,
documentation updates, and any bug fixes.
Once you have saved the file and extracted the image using the sl_unzip utility, continue by executing the sl_admin.csh script found in the root directory of the image, as follows:
% image_root_directory/cdrom/sl_admin.csh
This script invokes the Admin tool, which is a GUI that guides you through the steps required to install the TSP.
You can install the TSP into an existing LMC_HOME tree you are using for SmartModels, FlexModels, or MemPro models.
Or, you can set the LMC_HOME environment variable to point to a new directory where you want to install the software.
If LMC_HOME is not set, the Admin tool prompts you to specify an installation directory.
The DesignWare Memory Model software is fully compatible with existing MemPro installations and can be installed on top of existing SmartModel/FlexModel installations.
Memory Model Software Package
Next, you need to download and install the memory models themselves.
You can download and install as many models as you need. Memory Central gives you the ability to search for memory models by component name, type, keyword, or vendor.
The vendor lookup sorts the memory models by semiconductor vendors.
Search results from each view give you access to the memory model datasheets and links to either download the memory specification or add the model to a download list.
For DesignWare Memory Model downloads, the page prompts you to add the component to a download list. You can download one or more DesignWare Memory Models at a time.
Once you have a list of all the memory models you want, you can proceed to the download.
At this point, you will need to authenticate, using your Synopsys SolvNet ID.
If you don't have a SolvNet ID, follow the instructions on the authentication page to automatically sign up for one.
Save the model zip file, and then unzip the image using the sl_unzip utility, as follows:
% /bin/sl_unzip mxdate_string.zip
Remember that you must install the Technology Software Package before you install any memory models.
Also, make sure that the LMC_HOME environment variable is set to the $LMC_HOME where you installed the Technology Software Package.
Once you have the image unzipped, run the sl_admin.csh script that is in the root directory of the image, as follows:
% image_root_director/mxdate_string/platform/sl_admin.csh
This invokes the Admin GUI tool, which steps you through the process of installing the models.
The model(s) are installed in the directory specified by the environment variable.
The DesignWare Memory Models are fully compatible with existing MemPro installations.
You can also install them right on top of existing SmartModel/FlexModel installations.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed the DesignWare Memory Model software and models.
