Linking Saber & CST Studio Suite for Integrated Electromagnetic System Solution
Synopsys and CST launch Technology Partnership to address Demand of Automotive Industry
The increasing electrification of automotive platforms, driven by rising content for several vehicle applications, such as hybrid or electric vehicle powertrain solutions, driver assistance systems, as well as the rising use of consumer electronics devices in automobiles, creates additional challenges for engineers. The electromagnetic behavior of the entire system must be addressed in order to meet quality and safety requirements. In particular, the electromagnetic emission of dedicated components or electronic control units (ECU) can cause an undesired impact on the vehicle network or other devices in the vehicle. Malfunctions caused by electromagnetic emissions require additional iterations in R&D, possibly requiring changes to be applied to the physical implementation of the ECU such as the architecture, filter components or even other more critical design changes.
These changes are often cost and time intensive. Due to the very high cost pressures in automotive, as well as the challenging time-to-market conditions, R&D, project teams leverage simulation based tools to predict the electromagnetic emissions in order to identify and tackle issues early in the vehicle development phase before a hardware prototype is available. This allows R&D teams to uncover problems early and explore possible options to fix technical issues. Using this approach can ensure that project deadlines are met and that the required product quality is addressed, which ensures that end-customers are satisfied with the product.
Driven by the demand of their joint automotive customers, Synopsys and CST AG recently launched a technology partnership to address the requirements of an integrated electromagnetic system simulation solution. Both companies have joined forces to leverage complementary technology strengths around their solutions, Saber and CST STUDIO SUITE.
CST STUDIO SUITE allows engineers to create highly accurate 3D models, which can be simulated in time or frequency domain. Saber provides the capability of simulating complete automotive systems, including for instance, networking systems, circuits and IC components. In order to leverage the complementary strengths of their products, both companies have developed an interface between the tools, allowing users to export 3D simulation based models from CST STUDIO SUITE and reuse them in Saber for a complete system simulation. The solution is an automated approach. After the initial creation of a structural component model and 3D simulation in CST STUDIO SUITE, the model can be exported into a Saber model and integrated into Saber's user model library using a few mouse clicks. The interface will be shipped with CST STUDIO SUITE and has been released through the 2012.SP3 service pack.

Important Updates to the SaberRD Student Edition
An updated version of the SaberRD Student Edition is now available for download. Recommended for all Student Edition users, this release provides a more flexible online activation process, enhances interfaces with MATLAB/Simulink, and improves product quality.
Release highlights include:
- Improved Online Activation Flow for the SaberRD Student Edition
During product activation, SaberRD will invoke an external web browser to complete the activation process if IT policies (e.g. firewall restrictions) prevent SaberRD from directly accessing the internet.
- SaberRD-Simulink Cosimulation Adds Support for Fixed Time-Step Solvers
The Saber-Simulink Cosimulation interface now supports selection of fixed-step solver options in Simulink, in addition to the variable-step algorithms.
- Enhanced Capability for Exporting Simulink Models into SaberRD
The Simulink-to-SaberRD Model Export interface now supports passing of tunable block parameters and port labels from the Simulink model to the generated SaberRD model. Further, Simulink models can now be exported in either C or C++.
- Quality Improvements
Several bug fixes improve the stability and usability of the SaberRD Student Edition.
