LTE/LTE-A Model Library Extended
The December 2012 release of the LTE/LTE-A added two new systems:

  • Release 8 Closed Loop Downlink System
    The closed loop downlink system includes receiver calculation of the optimal rank indicator (RI), the best precoding matrix index (PMI) for maximum channel capacity and channel quality indicator (CQI) based on the channel and noise estimates. The RI, PMI and CQI values are fed to the transmitter, which in turn, changes the modulation format and rank – including changes from spatial multiplexing to transmit diversity, precoding in addition to selecting the best transport block size to achieve the desired coding rate. The system then reports the average system throughput achieved.
  • Release 8 Downlink Interference Cancellation System
    This is a simple example system showing interference cancellation in the downlink using a unique maximum likelihood (ML) estimator to estimate both the signal of interest as well as the interference. The interference is assumed to be a neighboring LTE eNodeB and the ML estimator estimates the interfering modulation format as well as the individual symbols to provide the most likely set of symbols transmitted from the eNodeB of interest and the interfering eNodeB.

The LTE/LTE-A library also includes an updated system:

  • Release 8 Cell Search System
    The system uses a more robust algorithm to improve lock quality, speed and channel ID estimation.

New Video: LTE / LTE-A Model Library
This short video provides an overview of the LTE / LTE-A library. It gives insight into the overall structure of the library, its appearance within the SPW block-diagram based design canvas, and its modular structure which allows easy integration of customer-designed models. In addition to the models themselves, it covers the ready-to-use scripts that represent the 3GPP-compliant test cases, and how to efficiently simulate these test cases using the built-in multicore support.

WCDMA/HSPA Library Extensions
The December 2012 release also features two new systems for HSPA:

  • Release 7 HSDPA System
    Enhances the current HSDPA system to update the coding, rate matching and modulation to support 64QAM modulation. The system also adds support for the High Speed Train channel model.
  • Release 7 HSUPA System
    Enhances the current HSUPA system to update the coding, rate matching and modulation to support 16QAM modulation. The system also adds support for E-DPCCH power boosting and for the High Speed Train channel model.

What's New in SPW and System Studio?
In December 2012, both SPW and System Studio have new releases available.

SPW 2012.12 (December 2012) release notes available for download from SolvNet. The release includes:

  • Increased tool capacity for very large designs, including faster block diagram drawing and editing operations. In addition, faster time to simulation is achieved through faster scheduling, code generation and large simulation sweep runs that allow large sweeps to initiate quickly.
  • HDS enhancements, reducing the number of warnings by Design Compiler and Synplify while synthesizing the RTL output
  • Improved MATLAB interface using a CDF based flow, which results in faster co-simulation. The import flow itself has been enhanced to allow an easy selection of the .m file path that can reside in an SPW library Lib/Cell/View.
  • SVN support has been added, in addition to ClearCase and CVS.
System Studio 2012.03-SP2 (September 2012) and 2012.12 (December 2012) release notes available for download from SolvNet. The releases include:
  • Local parallel simulations to easily submit parallel iterations to your local machine, taking advantage of multicore architectures. No installation of any load sharing software is required.
  • Structural parameters can now be set directly from your simulation control file, further enhancing the scripting capabilities for an efficient design space exploration.
  • Multiple Instances of Exported System Studio Models: The flow for exporting models always had the restriction that only a single instance of the exported model can be present in the simulation. This limitation has now been lifted and you may now specify the maximum number of n instances of an exported model at code generation / export time. System Studio will then automatically create the required infrastructure to allow these n instances to run in parallel.
  • Exporting System Studio Models using SystemC version 2.3 is now supported
  • Native support for CDF models (BETA): System Studio now supports SPW's CDF (C Data Flow) modeling style, allowing for native import of CDF libraries. CDF models can be instantiated, connected and parameterized in System Studio DFG (data flow graph).
