Synopsys Armenia Promotes Education at YSU

YEREVAN, December 07, 2005 - Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement among Synopsys Armenia CJSC, its Synopsys Outreach for Armenia Charitable Foundation and Yerevan State University (YSU).

“Synopsys’ agreement with YSU demonstrates our continued investment in the university students who represent the future of Armenia,” said Rich Goldman, vice president, Strategic Market Development at Synopsys. “Advancing math and science education worldwide is a fundamental value at Synopsys.

“Synopsys is proud to be associated with Armenia's leading technology institutions and seeks to provide them with the latest technology to help them equip their students for attractive jobs within the IT industry in Armenia.”

The goal of the program is to provide assistance and resources to YSU which will promote education in the field of semiconductor design and computer science through cooperation with the Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Radio Physics, and Physics departments. The program intends to upgrade YSU’s technical infrastructure, renovate classrooms and labs, and provide technical guidance, curriculum development and financial support and stipends. The participating departments at YSU will use Synopsys’ software tools for all microelectronics and semiconductor-related coursework and research.

Each year, it is expected that Electronic Engineering (EE) and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) academic groups will be competitively formed with undergraduate students who have successfully completed their second year at YSU. Upon graduation, it is expected that students from these groups will be able to apply for employment opportunities at Synopsys.

“We value the support Synopsys provides for YSU, including the administration and students,” said YSU rector Radik Martirosyan. “It is continuing proof of Synopsys’ long term commitment to Armenia. Synopsys contributions help make our learning environment highly qualified to offer the education needed for our graduates to find opportunities in Armenia’s growing IT industry.”

“Armenia needs well trained engineers and a world class technical university system and Synopsys is helping to make this possible.”
