Synopsys, Inc. and Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University (RAU) Start Joint Educational Program
Program to help advance the high-tech industry in Armenia through education of students in integrated circuit design

YEREVAN, Armenia – February 29, 2008 -Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced the signing of a Cooperation Agreement establishing a joint educational program at Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University (RAU). With Synopsys’ assistance, RAU established modern Bachelor’s and Master’s programs that provide advanced education in microelectronics, based on Synopsys’ tool suite and curriculum. RAU also received 30 software licenses for Synopsys’ comprehensive, industry-leading electronic design automation (EDA) University Tools Package. This state-of-the-art electronic design facility enables RAU to expand its engineering programs into all aspects of system-on-chip design including implementation, verification, test, and design for manufacturing. Under the program, Synopsys provides curriculum by the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department, Educational Design Kits, and technical support.

The program has also established the Common University Chair, “Microelectronics Circuits and Systems,” collaborating mainly with the Physics-technical, Applied Mathematics and Informatics faculties. Synopsys Armenia CJSC’s Synopsys for Armenia Charitable Foundation contributes to the Chair by providing a professorship named after Anania Shirakatsi. In October 2007, RAU established two computer classrooms on the premises of the university. Training for 15 third-year and 21 forth-year students in the Bachelor’s programs of the above-mentioned faculties was organized in November 2007. Educational plans, course programs and other necessary materials have been prepared to obtain a license from the Ministry of Education of Russian Federation to open Bachelor’s and Master’s groups in VLSI Design and EDA.

“We are happy to establish this microelectronics department at Russian-Armenian University, one of Armenia’s key universities. The cooperation with RAU has been extraordinary. Through this program, RAU graduates will be uniquely qualified to contribute to the IT economy right here in Armenia,” said Rich Goldman, vice president for Strategic Market Development at Synopsys and chief operating officer of Synopsys Armenia CJSC.

“I welcome the cooperation with Synopsys, Inc., and I am sure that this successfully started collaboration will be continued in the way of established traditions,” said Armen Darbinyan, Rector of RAU, Ex-Prime Minister of Armenia, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and member of the International Academy of Informatization.
