Synopsys Armenia Announces Official Opening of New Research and Development Site
Extensive Renovations Convert Former Soviet-era Semiconductor Fab into Modern Engineering and Learning Facility

YEREVAN, Armenia – September 25, 2007 - Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced the official opening of its new site in Yerevan, Armenia. Fashioned from the remains of a former Soviet-era semiconductor fab, the extensively remodeled and upgraded Synopsys office building is now one of the most modern IT research and development facilities in Armenia. Located in ViaSphere Technopark, the new 9,000 square meter site can host up to 500 employees and over 120 students. The site is also the new home to the “Microelectronic Circuits and Systems” Interdepartmental Chair at the State Engineering University of Armenia. It includes five state-of-the-art classrooms, all fully equipped with desktop PCs, projection equipment and whiteboards. Synopsys worked with Western specialists to reinforce the existing structure extensively in order to comply with local safety and security standards.

The remodeled site features central air-conditioning, comfortable workplaces, 15 conference rooms and many amenities for employees. These include well-equipped break rooms, a library, a state-of-the-art telephone system, broadband satellite and landline connections, security and safety video recording and monitoring, and many other amenities. The facility’s data center features the largest computing cluster in Armenia, consisting of over 100 dual-processor servers. The data center is equipped with a separate ventilation, air filtration and cooling system, independent from the main air-conditioning system. Power backup supports the security and ventilation systems in the building.

Seven small and eight large beautifully designed conference rooms, conveniently located in the engineering levels provide necessary privacy and comfort for business meetings. The rooms are fully air-conditioned, and equipped with modern teleconferencing equipment, whiteboards, and data and electrical ports for PC and projection equipment.

The buildings main water supply comes from the city network. For emergency cases, the building is outfitted with water tanks with total capacity of 24,000 liter. This amount allows for uninterrupted water supply for an entire working day in case of low pressure or an interruption of the main supply. The water is screened through a complex system of filters to provide smooth operation of its piping and pumping systems.

The building is outfitted with two large break rooms For recreation such as table soccer, chess or table tennis. Each break room features a full kitchen set, including refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave ovens. In addition to the main break rooms, each working level is outfitted with several beautifully designed pantries, each featuring a bar and a kitchen set with coffee/tea makers.
