History
The SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair was established on August 1, 2001 by SEUA Scientific Council decision. On December 1, 2004, the Chair became a member of the Synopsys Worldwide University Program by cooperation agreement between Synopsys Armenia CJSC and SEUA. The Chair functions in the premises of Synopsys Armenia CJSC, in the structure of SAED. Doctor of Science, Professor Vazgen Sh. Melikyan has been the Head of the SEUA Chair of "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" since its establishment.

Educational programs implemented in the frame of cooperation
  • Bachelor program
    • In IC Design specialization starting from the 3rd year of Bachelor program is established and functions from September 1, 2001 - Top students from the Computer Science and Informatics, Cybernetics, Radio Engineering & Communication Systems, and Applied Mathematics faculties continue their further education at SAED premises (SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair) by Industry/University Educational model upon completing the first 2 years of their Bachelor study.
    • In EDA specialization starting from the 3rd year of Bachelor program is established and functions from September 1, 2003 - Top students from the Computer Science and Informatics faculty continue their further education at SAED premises (SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair) by Industry/University Educational model upon completing the first 2 years of their Bachelor study.
  • Master program
    • In IC Design specialization – Top graduates from Bachelor program continue education in the Masters program at SAED premises (SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair).
    • In EDA specialization - Top graduates from Bachelor program continue education in the Masters program at SAED premises (SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair).
    • In IC Design Training specialization - Top graduates from Bachelor program continue education in the Masters program at SAED premises (SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair). The Group is formed of the existing MS students of IC Design and EDA specializations, who study two specializations simultaneously. SEUA gives additional certificate upon graduation. The program is anticipated for preparation of trainers to teach in the region.
  • PhD programs are carried out for IC Design and EDA specializations.

Development of SEUA's technical infrastructure
Synopsys assists not only the above mentioned Chair, but also the donor faculties of SEUA where completing the first two years of studies the students come to study in Synopsys Armenia Educational Department (SEUA’s "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair). On September 23, 2005, the State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA) received a Charles Babbage Grant from Synopsys Outreach Charitable Foundation for Armenia. The grant included numerous copies of Synopsys’ electronic design automation (EDA) software tools and PC workstations to enhance the existing learning environment. The Synopsys Armenia Educational Department provided SEUA with a Distance Learning Classroom, including 17 computers that meet modern standards and access to Synopsys' industry leading EDA software products.

Participation in SEUA governance
Hovik Musayelyan, executive director of Synopsys Armenia is a Member of SEUA Board of Governance and the President of SEUA Alumni Association.

Awards
Synopsys Inc. and Synopsys management were rewarded with the highest awards of SEUA presented by management SEUA:
  • In 2006, Synopsys has been recognized as the Best Partner of SEUA.
  • In 2005, Synopsys President and Chief Executive Officer, Aart de Geus, was awarded the SEUA Gold Medal.
  • In 2006, Synopsys vice-president of corporate marketing and strategic alliances, Synopsys Armenia CEO Rich Goldman was awarded the SEUA Gold Medal.
  • In 2007, Synopsys vice-president of corporate marketing and strategic alliances, Synopsys Armenia CEO Rich Goldman was awarded the degree of Honorable Doctor of SEUA.
  • In 2008, Synopsys Armenia Executive Director, Hovik Musayelyan, was awarded the SEUA Gold Medal.
  • In 2008, in recognition of efficient and fruitful cooperation in training highly qualified specialists in the IT sector, Synopsys, Inc conferred SEUA with Synopsys certificate.
  • In 2011, Director of Synopsys Armenia Educational Department, Head of SEUA "Microelectronic Circuits and Systems" Chair Vazgen Melikyan, was awarded the SEUA Gold Medal.
  • In 2013, in recognition of productive, fruitful and sustainable cooperation in preparing highly qualified IT specialists, SEUA was awarded Synopsys certificate of recognition.

The joint efforts of Synopsys Armenia and SEUA have resulted in training of many talented specialists who contribute to the national engineering workforce.
