Reflecting SNUG’s commitment to technical excellence, all papers are peer reviewed by the SNUG Technical Committee. If your proposal is accepted, a Technical Committee member will be assigned to work with you to help you create and deliver an exceptional paper and conference presentation.
Paper Acceptance Criteria
The SNUG Technical Committee has implemented a two-step acceptance process:
- Preliminary paper acceptance is based on the initial submission proposal.
- Final paper acceptance and the assignment of presentation spots at the conference are determined after the paper is complete, reviewed and approved by the Technical Committee.
The SNUG Technical Committee evaluates submissions based on a number of criteria, including:
- Technical Relevance: Is the topic meaningful to other professionals? Introduce the problem or challenge that you are addressing.
- Technical Applicability: Is the topic general enough to be helpful to other high-level designers?
- Technical Completeness: Is the topic explored completely? Describe the approach that you took to analyze and address your challenge.
- Are the problems and solutions well described? Review lessons learned along the way (what was expected/unexpected, what went well/not so well).
- Is the conclusion well substantiated? Why is your solution a good one? What can other designers take away and use from your paper?
- What are some ongoing areas of development or next steps that you (or a peer) could pursue?
- General Readability: Is the paper well organized? Is the paper grammatically correct and spelled correctly?
- Effective Summary of your effort and results.

Presenting at SNUG
You should use your SNUG presentation as a "discussion" rather than a "reading" of your technical paper. While you should cover the same key points in both your paper and your live session, there are important differences in HOW you communicate your information. Many of the conference attendees will have already read your paper in the online proceedings. They will expect to hear you discuss your techniques, talk about your approach, and support your conclusions.
Most SNUG presentations are 30-40 minutes in length, including Q&A. Typically, we recommend leaving 5-10 minutes of that time for Q&A. Depending on your slide content, this usually means 15-20 slides. Your SNUG team will communicate specific details and presentation times after final acceptances are made.
