The appreciation ceremony in Synopsys Armenia dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA (Polytechnic))

On April 29, 2008 the Appreciation Ceremony dedicated to the 75th anniversary of SEUA took place at Synopsys Armenia.Speaker of RA National Assembly Tigran Torosyan, RA Vice Prime Minister, RA Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan, Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritzyan, Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan, Rector of SEUA (Polytechnic) Vostanik Marukhyan, other honorable representatives from Government, Synopsys’ partner universities, IT and Business organizations and guests were present.

Hovik Musayelyan, the General Manager of Synopsys Armenia opened the Ceremony congratulating SEUA and expressing his thankfulness for the successful collaboration. He said: “It is an honor to support this higher educational program that enables academic research, fosters innovation, and promotes careers in semiconductor and IT technologies in Armenia. Universities enrolled in our program receive state-of-the-art, commercial-grade EDA tools, as well as, training and technology to support their educational programs and help realize our mission”.

Tigran Torosyan, Nerses Yeritzyan, Levon Mkrtchyan, the Advisor of RA President Fadey Sargsyan made welcoming speeches.

Rich Goldman, Vice President at Strategic Market Development & CEO of Synopsys Armenia presented “Synopsys Worldwide University Program”, particularly mentioning: “SAED is a significant asset for us in Armenia, providing a unique model for engineering education. The strength of this program was a key reason for our entry into Armenia, and is a key for advancing IT in Armenia. We continue to invest in SAED to assure the continued strength of the program”.

Vazgen Melikyan, Director of Synopsys Armenia Educational Department, Head of SEUA “Microelectronic Circuits and Systems” Interdepartmental Chair presented “SEUA-Synopsys Armenia: Fruitful Cooperation”, stated: “Synopsys is leading the way in VLSI design education. We are developing and cultivating effective partnerships with universities and industry to provide you with the highest quality microelectronic design education available. We hope you will join us at SAED, and we look forward to the opportunity to advance your professional engineering career”.

Vostanik Marukhyan, Rector of SEUA presented the “SEUA & IT Oriented Education: Past, Present, and Future”.

During ceremony SEUA Rector Vostanik Marukhyan was awarded with Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of leadership, dedication and significant contribution and continuing efforts to organization of fruitful Industry-University cooperation in the preparation of highly qualified specialists through SEUA Interdepartmental Chair “Microelectronic Circuits & Systems” and Synopsys Armenia Educational Department.

To encourage careers in the field of IT, Synopsys is heavily investing in microelectronics education and is engaged in many successful cooperation programs with major universities. SEUA, being the leader in the field of technical education in Armenia, became Synopsys Armenia’s first educational partner. The successful cooperation with SEUA is based on “University-Industry” educational model. The SEUA “Microelectronic Circuits and Systems” Interdepartmental Chair was established on August 1, 2001, by SEUA Scientific Council decision. On December 1, 2004, the Chair became a member of Synopsys Worldwide University Program by cooperation agreement, signed between Synopsys Armenia CJSC and SEUA. To date 263 students have graduated from these bachelor’s and master’s programs and have received their diploma and SAED certificate of achievement. Number of student for 2007-2008 educational year - 189.

Synopsys Armenia also cooperates with other major universities such as Yerevan State University (YSU), American University of Armenia (AUA), Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (MIET) and Russian-Armenian State University (RAU). The cooperation is realized through Synopsys Armenia Educational Department (SAED). Based on industry cooperation with participating universities, the aim of the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department is to train highly qualified specialists in the field of VLSI design and EDA who will meet the specific requirements of semiconductor an IT companies. To support this effort Synopsys put in place computer laboratory infrastructures and donated hundreds of EDA software tool packages to participating universities.
