Synopsys Armenia Invests $15,000 USD in Technical Library
State-of-the-art books are a gift to the 300+ students of the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department (SAED) for the new academic semester

Yerevan, Armenia, March 10, 2010 - Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, today announced that Synopsys Armenia is committing $15,000 USD to refresh the SAED technical library with up-to-date professional books. This commitment illustrates Synopsys’ recurrent investment in Armenia’s youth and IT education, a key component in enhancing the competiveness of Armenia’s High Tech economy.

Synopsys Armenia provides an advanced education in microelectronics through its educational department. Based on a proven educational model of university-industry cooperation, SAED trains students to become highly qualified, industry-ready specialists in the field of very large scale integration (VLSI) design and electronic design automation (EDA). More than 400 students have graduated from SAED, and most are now employed by Synopsys Armenia or other local high-tech companies.

To provide the students with a world-class education, SAED offers all the necessary components of the educational process: a comprehensive curriculum adopted by several prestigious universities in countries worldwide; Synopsys’ state-of-the-art, industry-leading electronic design automation software and Educational Design Kits; highly qualified and experienced faculty; and a modern technical infrastructure and environment. The newly purchased books offer a broad range of information on computer architecture and microelectronics, programming and scripting languages, mathematics. They will serve as a valuable supplement to the SAED manuals covering lectures, laboratory works, course projects and homework assignments already available at the Synopsys Armenia Technical Library.

“Textbooks are so important in offering students a doorway to a vast world of knowledge,” said Dr. Chi-Foon Chan, president and chief operating officer at Synopsys. “With this latest investment to refresh the SAED library, Synopsys hopes to throw wide open that door and help students learn and prepare for success in their technical careers.”

“SAED is a significant asset for us in Armenia, providing a unique model for engineering education,” said Rich Goldman, vice president for Corporate Marketing and Strategic Alliances at Synopsys, and chief executive officer of Synopsys Armenia CJSC. “This program plays a key role in advancing IT in Armenia, and our continued investment will help ensure its ongoing strength.”

"It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to receive a world-class education in such a unique and state-of-the-art environment like the one we have at SAED. We appreciate Synopsys’ contribution to IT education and will do our best to learn the skills for becoming highly qualified, industry-ready specialists,” said Aghavni Tovmasyan, a second year EDA Master Program student. “Having access to these additional books is an excellent beginning to the new academic semester."
