Synopsys Week in Armenia ’08 Presentation

YEREVAN, Armenia – September 29, 2008 - Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced that Synopsys Week in Armenia will be held in Yerevan from September 29 through October 3. Synopsys Week’s agenda includes a number of important events: The Third Annual Armenian Microelectronics Olympiad; a ceremony to bestow the Annual Educational Awards of RA President to the best IT students; a traditional meeting with the RA President at Synopsys; the 2008 Commencement Ceremony; a ceremony to award Synopsys Certificates to RAU students; a reception for the winners of the Presidential IT Awards and Microelectronics Olympiad; a community volunteer event; and guest lectures at the National Academy of Science of RA (NAS RA), State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA), Yerevan State University (YSU), and International Exhibition Digitec ’08 (Appendix 1).

Among the accomplishments Synopsys will celebrate is the recent introduction of its Galaxy Custom Designer (TM) solution. Synopsys Armenia’s engineering team played a major role in developing this important and strategic new product. Galaxy Custom Designer is the electronic design automation (EDA) industry’s first modern-era mixed-signal implementation solution. Architected for productivity, Galaxy Custom Designer can provide a unified solution for custom and digital designs, thereby enhancing designer efficiency.

Dr. Chi-Foon Chan, president and chief operating officer for Synopsys, Inc., said, “Armenia is a very important location for Synopsys, and we are entrusting some significant developments to engineers here. The Synopsys Galaxy Customer Designer solution is an outstanding example of what the team in Armenia can accomplish, and we are proud of their work.”

Rich Goldman, vice president of Corporate Marketing and Strategic Alliances at Synopsys, and chief executive officer of Synopsys Armenia CJSC said, ”We have worked with academia, business, and the government in Armenia to build a productive, market-oriented environment that supports the development of the high tech industry in Armenia, which in turn benefits Armenia’s overall economy. Our combined efforts are proving to be fruitful, though there is still much work to do. Because so many people and groups in Armenia join in contributing to this success, we feel it is appropriate to celebrate all that we are doing together.

In most countries, a day would be sufficient for this, but in Armenia, an entire week can barely contain all the activities of this community. The week’s agenda is very full, and is indicative of everyone’s great efforts. I look forward to participating in Synopsys Week, celebrating our progress, and moving ahead with the great work we plan to accomplish together.”

“Declaring Synopsys Week in September is very symbolic because last year’s September was declared by the government as IT Month and was full with different related events,” said Hovik Musayelyan, executive director of Synopsys Armenia. “Synopsys Week does not mean that we are active for one week only. It simply means that we will present all our activities and accomplishments from the last 12 months in one week to promote interest in the high tech sector and our company’s role in its development.”
