New Synopsys Initiatives Gain Approval of President of Armenia
Establishment of the the ’IT Presidential Award& Microelectronics Olympiad Champions Alumni Club’ to Showcase Past Winners’ Successes

YEREVAN, Armenia – October 1, 2008 - Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced that two new Synopsys initiatives gained approval of the president of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. These two new initiatives include the establishment of the ’IT Presidential Award & Microelectronics Olympiad Champions Alumni Club,’ and the creation of a new category for the Armenia Microelectronics Olympiads, “Best Student from Diaspora.” The suggestion about having this nomination was made by the Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan. The initiatives were introduced to the president by Rich Goldman, co-director of the Board of the Annual Presidential Educational Awards, Synopsys vice president of Corporate Marketing and Strategic Alliances, and chief executive officer of Synopsys Armenia CJSC. Mr. Goldman discussed the idea for the initiatives during a meeting held on September 29 at Synopsys Armenia with Synopsys President and COO Chi-Foon Chan, Synopsys Armenia Executive Director Hovik Musayelyan and Deputy Executive Director Andranik Hovhannisyan also present.

“These are very good and useful ideas. We should go forth with them. We are proud of our diaspora. There are many outstanding people, businessmen, intellectuals and diplomats. It is a very strong human resource for Armenia,” said President Serzh Sargsyan of the RA.

“Over the past four years, the Microelectronics Olympiads and the Presidential IT Awards have accomplished much. It is appropriate that we establish the ”IT Presidential Award & Microelectronics Olympiad Champions Alumni Club” as the second generation of participating students now enters the program. Many of today”s students were inspired by previous winners. Establishing this club will help the champions inspire even more students to enter engineering as a career. I am particularly happy that we are extending the success of these initiatives with President Sargsyan,” said Mr. Goldman.

On October 1, 2008, Synopsys hosted a gala reception and award ceremony that recognized 29 of Armenia”s brightest IT students who received Presidential Awards (Appendix 1), and 14 winners of the Third Annual Armenian Microelectronics Olympiad (Appendix 2). Synopsys”s new initiatives were announced at the reception. Members of the new ”IT Presidential Award & Microelectronics Olympiad Champions Alumni Club” were present at the ceremony.
