2006 Annual Educational Award of RA President in IT sphere
On Sep 26, 2006, 19 of Armenia's brightest IT students were awarded with Presidential Awards. This annual award was inaugurated last year and this was a second such awarding ceremony in the independent Armenia.

On April 28, 2005, the President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan established a special organizing committee to manage the program.

In 2006, the committee expanded the list of eligible educational institutions, and selected 13 deserving students from departments of Computer Systems and Informatics, Cybernetics, Radio electronics and Telecommunications Systems of the State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA), departments of Applied Mathematics, Radiophysics, and Physics of the Yerevan State University, as well as Computer Science program of the Engineering College of the American University of Armenia (AUA) as well as 6 students from the SEUA base college, A. Shahinyan Physics-Math special school, Quant college, Anania Shirakatsi college, and Photon college from Gyumri.

This year's award ceremony was a special one. Along with certificates and financial awards, the winners also received special memorable Presidential Educational Prizes in IT area made of glass and metal, symbolizing the IT industry. The award design was selected through a contest of young Armenian designers sponsored by the awards committee. Following the awards ceremony, the winners were received at the White House for a special meeting with President Kocharyan.

CEO of Synopsys Armenia Rich Goldman said, "Synopsys, which entered Armenia in November 2004, welcomes the recognition of IT as a priority industry by Armenia. We recognize that the uninterrupted flow of talented and qualified young engineers represent a key component for the continued development of the high-tech industry in the country. Synopsys is proud to be associated with these prestigious awards. These awards serve as a strong incentive for Armenia's youth to expand their knowledge and preserve historical engineering traditions. I am very impressed by the quality of this year's award recipients".

The Government of Armenia and Synopsys share many of the same approaches towards the development of the hi-tech national industries. Synopsys sponsorship of the second Annual Presidential Awards in IT is compelling evidence to it.
